ABOUT US
Mosaic Oasis Studio & Supply is a fully equipped, artist owned mosaic studio and workshop, retail mosaic supply store, and artist gallery providing handmade mosaics for purchase. We offer multiple weekly sessions of a one-time Introductory Mosaic class designed to give you the basic skills needed to get you started and then welcome you back to our bright and peaceful studio to explore this exciting medium on your schedule. Use our tools, adhesives, books, and guidance while creating your own work of art. You can even store your project at the Mosaic Oasis between visits so that all your work (and mess) stays here!! WE RECYCLE - we are committed to being a GREEN business. To that end, we welcome you to bring us your recyclables. We would love your old towels and tee’s for rags, clean plastic containers and utensils for grouting, clean glass jars with labels removed (large better than small) and of course any broken favorite plates, china, or ceramic for you or others to use in creating a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Please see our Blog for our most current wish-list. Suzanne Baratta Owayda, Arlington native and co-owner of the Mosaic Oasis Studio & Supply, discovered the beauty of mosaics during her travels in the Middle East and Europe. During a sabbatical in London she studied the art of mosaics at the Hamstead School of Art. She returned to Arlington with a passion for the art and is continuing to learn about this colorful and vibrant means of artistic expression. Suzanne participated in and sold artwork at The Art of Mosaics show at the Somerville Museum in September 2009. The majority of Suzanne’s mosaic art includes functional pieces such as fireplace enhancements, garden ornaments, and tables suitable for both inside and outside. Betsy Rodman, an Arlington resident and co-owner of The Mosaic Oasis, began mosaics in 2007. Over the next two years she exhibited and sold her work at different venues including:
“For me, working in mosaics has opened a door into a world of possibilities and creative inspiration. Although I have never had formal art training, mosaics has enabled me to unlock the creative life within and to channel that creativity into an active part of my every day existence. Coupled with my work as a community health nurse for over two decades and a practitioner and instructor of the Japanese martial art of Aikido for over 25 years, I have been able to move towards a place of balance and joy. It’s definitely cheaper than therapy and far more fun!” Commissions include a center panel installed at Temple Beth Shalom, Melrose, MA as part of the Temple renovation project in 2009, several large mosaic art mirrors, and custom made pendants and earrings. See Gallery for photos. Suzanne and Betsy are available for commissions of any type and size. We are also available for community projects. Please see our Blog for the most current happenings. |
