Building Armatures for Mosaic Sculpture
Interested in how to build a sculpture and prepare the surface for mosaic?
Service Description
Join Lori and Pam to explore several techniques for building sculptures using a variety of materials. In this class you can expect to build 1-2 under structures (armatures) with a prepared surface ready to mosaic. These will be around 12-18 inches in size. We will go over applying tessera to the surfaces including how to move around the various dips, jumps and bends of your forms. Supplies are included and you are welcome to bring dense styrofoam, wire or metal mesh that you may have collected along the way. (Please bring any special cutting or carving tools you have, as well as, a hot glue gun and hot glue sticks. No need to purchase any of these things.) You can expect to learn: Types of materials used for armatures How to solidly attach elements How to balance your understructure How to unify the surface with thin set How to cut tessera for uneven surfaces
